About Greek Olive Varieties

There are over 60 varieties in Greece (and 139 worldwide). Kalamata olives are the most well known. In fact, when people outside of Greece think of what Greek olives are, this is exactly what they picture. As far as table olives go, these are as common as they are delicious. These olive trees grow in the Kalamata region of Greece. In this same region and in adjacent Peloponnesos, Koroneiki grows abundantly and is used for many types of olive oil.

Yet there are more varieties. For our “Nike” medicinal olive oil we use Picual olives.

Rich in vitamin E and polyphenols

The Koroneiki is a small, firm olive known for its fruitiness. The olives are picked by hand and transported directly to the mill in baskets. In the first-and-only cold pressing, the high quality extra virgin olive oil with a fine fruity and tender taste is created within a few hours.

Acidity

The extremely low acidity (in all cases below 0.35% and often significantly lower  (see product range for details) shows that there are virtually no unbound fatty acids in the oil. There is no clearer quality mark for olive oil!
